Screening on Monday, November 7th at 8:30pm at the Maison des Cultures du Monde at 101 Boulevard Raspail 75006 Paris, France.

On November 1st-2nd, Afflictions: Volume 1 and Volume 2, will be screening at Cal State University, Long Beach. On November 7th at 8:30pm, "Shadows & Illuminations " will be screening at the prestigious Jean Rouch International Film Festival. On November 12th at 9:45am, "40 Years of Silence: An Indonesian Tragedy," willl be screened at the Human Rights Conference hosted by Central Michigan University.

Following in the footsteps of "40 Years of Silence:An Indonesian Tragedy," tthe first 3 films in the "Afflictions: Culture and Mental Illness in Indonesia" series, consisting of "Shadows and Illuminations," "The Bird Dancer," and " Family Victim" has been officially selected for the prestigious "7th Annual Globians world and culture Documentary Film Festival" in Berlin this August.

March 2011

We have a couple of screenings coming up. On 3/31, the Afflictions series will be screening at the Society for Psychological Anthropology Meeting in Santa Monica from 3/31-4/3. On 5/31, the Afflictions series will be shown at the Global Mental Health Research workshop at McGill. On 6/2, the Afflictions series will be screened at the Society for the Study of Psychiatry and Culture annual meeting in Seattle. From 6/9-6/12, the Afflictions series will be screened at the World Psychiatric Association Thematic Conference in Istanbul, Turkey.

" 40 Years of Silence: An Indonesian Tragedy" has been nominated for the 2011 History Maker Awards in New York January 26-28, 2011 which recognizes the very best in History, Current Affairs, and non-Fiction programming from around the world! Watch the film here.

We will be having a viewing of "The Bird Dancer" at UCLA on Tuesday, January 11.th from 12pm-1:30pm in Haines Hall Reading Rm 352. And we'll also have a viewing of "Family Victim" at UCLA on the following Tuesday, January 18th the same place and time.

We are honored to announce that the "Afflictions: Culture and Mental Illness in Indonesia" series has been nominated for the prestigious 2010 International Documentary Association (IDA) Awards in the "Limited Series" category along with four other nominees. Winners will be announced on at the IDA Documentary Awards show on December 3, 2010 at the Directors Guild of America.

We will be having a small private viewing of "Shadows & Illuminations" on Tuesday, October 5th from 12pm-1pm at UCLA Haines Hall Reading Room 352.

We have completed the "Afflictions: Culture and Mental Illness in Indonesia" series consisting of "Shadows & Illuminations," "The Bird Dancer," and "Family Victim." On May 15, 2010, Elemental Productions hosted Aftershock LA, a fundraiser party with Royal/T to raise funds for Build Change, a non-profit that goes to earthquake disaster areas, such as Indonesia, China and Haiti, and teaches the locals how to build affordable and earthquake resistant houses. We had a great turnout and many people came out to support this wonderful organization! Thanks to everyone's help, we were able to raise a grand total of $9,154.31 to donate to Build Change.

Director Lemelson is at the Culture, Mind and Brain Conference at the University of Michigan where he will be screening 2 films from the Afflictions series, which are free and open to the public.

The film screenings will be followed by a Q&A with Lemelson. It takes place on central campus on Friday, April 13, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Room 6050 at the U-M Institute for Social Research, 426 Thompson Street, Ann Arbor. Hope to see you there!

The Los Angeles Indonesian Consulate, the Indonesian American Music and Film Association, and the UCLA Center for Southeast Asian Studies will be hosting a screening of "40 Years of Silence: An Indonesian Tragedy" on March 2nd at 7:30pm at the Los Angeles Consulate.
